A Treatment Reliability-Based Method for Supporting Infrastructure Asset Management of Wastewater Treatment Plants

چکیده

A simple and consolidated reliability-based method widely used to unveil the real reliability stability of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is herein proposed trigger decision making on operational improvements asset management for maintaining or improving effectiveness, reliability, efficiency. Five-year data (2015–2019) from 16 Portuguese activated sludge WWTPs were used. For 73% yearly which fitted a lognormal distribution, Niku’s coefficient was computed assess plant annual biological oxygen demand (BOD5), chemical (COD), total suspended solids (TSS). The standard deviation concentrations characterize stability, maximum deviations allowed comply with European discharge requirements urban derived. results demonstrate extended aeration more reliable stable than conventional (0.98 vs. 0.82 BOD5, 0.97 0.91 COD, 0.94 0.89 TSS). Furthermore, lower reliabilities stabilities found smaller WWTPs. These are important strategic designing rehabilitation system. At tactical levels, resources’ allocation operating conditions set up, WWTP’s variation allows establishing mean effluent required compliance given different scenarios requirements.

Chebyshev finite difference method for solving a mathematical model arising in wastewater treatment plants

The Chebyshev finite difference method is applied to solve a system of two coupled nonlinear Lane-Emden differential equations arising in mathematical modelling of the excess sludge production from wastewater treatment plants. This method is based on a combination of the useful properties of Chebyshev polynomials approximation and finite difference method. The approach consists of reducing the ...

Model Based Control of Wastewater Treatment Plants

In the contribution a (non-exhaustive) overview is given on the use of mathematical models in control systems of wastewater treatment plants. As a starting point, the four building blocks of any controlled process are used, 1) the process itself, 2) the actuators that allow manipulation of the process, 3) the control algorithm that calculates a proper action for disturbance rejection or setpoin...

Upgrading Wastewater Treatment Plants Based on Reuse Demand, Technical and Environmental Policies (A Case Study)

Reclamation and reuse programs are an indispensable part of integrated water resource management, particularly in arid and semi arid regions. Yet, the feasibility of sustainable application not only is relied on design, operation and maintenance of wastewater treatment plants, but also could be influenced by the economical and environmental aspects of reuse demands. This study is aimed to illus...
